Architecture and Art

This gallery isn't about nature or wildlife photography. It is about architecture and art, which can be beautiful in their own right. I believe that photographers are artists, as are architects and painters, sculptors, and other creators. I enjoy photographing the works that other artists have created and will be showing you some of those works in this gallery. I may also include occasional photographs that I just consider to be "artsy".

The Monolith

This photo shows the famous Vigeland Sculpture Park (within Frogner Park) in Oslo, Norway. Rising in the upper left background on an elevated stone terrace is the landmark Monolith (Monolitten), a 14-meter-tall granite column intricately carved with 121 interwoven human figures reaching toward the sky.

This black-and-white landscape photograph captures a serene, reflective scene along a natural pond edge. The focal point is a bare, gnarled tree leaning out from the right bank over the quiet water. Its intricate, bare branch structures cast a sharp, mirror-like dark reflection onto the glassy water surface below.

Notre-Dame Stained Glass

Towering 13th-century stained glass windows dominate the view, glowing with vibrant blues, deep reds, and golds depicting detailed biblical narrative scenes in lancets crowned by circular rose tracery.

Ford

This is an interesting perspective and closeup of a Ford tractor I saw one day. I thought it would make a cool "artsy" sort of shot.

Quebec City at Night

This is a stunning nighttime panorama of Quebec City's skyline, looking up toward the elevated cliffside of Upper Town (Haute-Ville) from Lower Town (Basse-Ville). Dominating the upper-left horizon is Quebec City's most iconic landmark, the Fairmont Le Château Frontenac.

Soaring ribbed vault arches frame the upper nave and side aisles, highlighting the classic French Gothic architecture.

South Rose Window

This shot highlights the transept and crossing inside Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris, featuring one of its world-famous rose windows. Dominating the upper right of the frame is the monumental 13th-century South Rose Window (Rosace Sud). Its intricate, starburst-like wheel of brilliant cobalt blue, violet, and red stained glass glows intensely, set directly above a row of light-filled lancet windows.

Your Rainbow Panorama

This photo was taken from inside "Your rainbow panorama" on the roof of the ARoS Aarhus Art Museum in Aarhus, Denmark. The tinted glass transitions dynamically across the visible light spectrum—shifting from deep cobalt blue and indigo in the immediate foreground, to vibrant violet and magenta along the curve, and finally fading into warm orange and pink hues in the far bend.

Sun Rays

This black-and-white photograph captures crepuscular sun rays filtering dramatically through the canopy of an avocado tree. Positioned directly behind the dense central branches of the tree, the sun creates a brilliant starburst effect. Strong, distinct beams of light burst outward in 360 degrees, cutting through light fog surrounding the foliage. (Photo credit: My wife took this beautiful shot. I only edited it.)
